| Graduated in medicine in 1978 in the Oviedo University (Northern Spain). Fellowship in internal Medicine & Endocrinology and Diabetes between 1979 and 1983 in the Oviedo University Hospital. During those years I participated every summer during 15 days in the Asturias Summer camps for diabetic children and my interested in diabetes challenges and clinical management began. Postgraduate training in Diabetes during 1984-85 in the University of Miami at Jackson Memorial Hospital, working in intensive diabetes management with Dr. Jay Skyler in the very early days of insulin pump therapy and Diabetes & Lipids disorders with Dr. Ronald Goldberg |

| Areas of Special Interest and Development Hipoglycaemias. In this field I have a review published in 1995 in Diabetes the official scientific Spanish Diabetes Association organ, and later I have lectured extensively in the subject for primary care colleagues, to alert them about the importance of the problem. Pioneering CSSI (Continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion) in Spain we have developed the first Spanish program for initiating CSSI in the outpatient setting and the method was published in 1999 in Diabetes Spectrum of the ADA we are running a very large insulin pump treated group and our results are publish periodically in abstracts in the Spanish Annual Meeting both in terms of clinical and quality of life results. As a consequence I am lecturing extensively about insulin pumps through Spain. Working at the present with CGMS (continuous glucose monitoring system) in conjunction with insulin pump therapy. Very interested in Diabetes Education creating info written and video materials for patients and diabetes educators. I have made 16 educational booklets for diabetic patients very popular in Spain and many of them available in the internet in the website developed in 1997 a few examples are:
